Attorney Andy Strand shines for the Law office of Myles Breiner

Stories from the Frontlines

It’s a quote that floats around courtrooms among jaded defendants and sarcastic attorneys; I originally came across the quote from attorney Marcus Landsberg, who is pictured above courtesy of ChatGPT’s new image creator. And while it’s funny on the surface, it underscores a hard truth in the legal world: it’s the winning result that matters most, everything else is secondary when looking at freedom or jail.

I would like to bring my loyal jail mail readers up to speed on a rare courtroom moment that nearly resulted in the dismissal of a serious felony case. The hearing also introduced me to a rather impressive “associate counsel” attorney, Mr. Andrew “Andy” Strand.

Just last week in Circuit Court, before A&P Judge Johnson, I watched Mr. Strand — appearing on behalf of attorney Myles Breiner — come close to securing a dismissal. How? By pointing out a fatally defective charging document.

This wasn’t luck. It was pure legal precision — Mr. Stand identified a constitutional due process violation when the government failed to include the essential elements of the offense in the charging document.

Before I stepped into Judge Johnson’s courtroom, I passed by two government attorneys in the hallway — one on the phone, both frantically shuffling papers. At the time, I didn’t think much of it. I had no idea their urgency was tied to what was about to unfold in court: a sharp challenge by Mr. Strand exposing a fatally defective charging document.

👏 Shoutouts Where They’re Due

I’ve heard high praise over the years for “of counsel” attorneys who brought serious value:

  • When Haley Cheng filled in for Thomas Otake — clients noticed.

  • When David Fanelli filled in for Victor Bakke — same thing.

Now? I’m putting Andy Strand in that category. His sharp execution last week was one of the most impressive moves I’ve seen in 20+ years. It’s a reminder that the Law Office of Myles Breiner continues to put the client first, and that’s why they’ve lasted, thrived, and delivered when it counts.

In the private sector, no one hands you clients. You eat what you kill. You have to earn every win, and every dollar. And if you want to survive, you’d better have people around you who know what they’re doing.

Until next time,
